BIOGRAPHY

Aleksandr Shaikin was born in Tcheboksary, Russia. He began his piano studies at the age of six. He was equally passionate about classical music, mathematics, physics, and chess. At the age of 15, he moved to Moscow to continue his piano training. During this period, he benefited from teaching by world-renowned professors, such as Anna Arzamanova, Eliso Virsaladze, Pavel Gililov (piano), Vaja Tchachava (accompaniment), Imre Rohmann, Esther Hoppe, and Aleksandr Bonduryansky (chamber music). In 2015, after completing his studies, he won second place at the prestigious international piano competition "Géza Anda" in Zurich.Throughout his professional career as a pianist, Aleksandr has performed in major concerts in Switzerland, including at Zurich's Tonhalle and the Auditorium Stravinsky in Montreux. He has also played at the Grand Hall of the Tchaikovsky Conservatory in Moscow, Salle Cortot in Paris, and the Ferenc Liszt Academy in Budapest. He has participated in performances with orchestras such as the European Philharmonic of Switzerland, Concerto Budapest, Tonhalle Orchestra Zurich, and Musikkollegium Winterthur. Aleksandr's passion for chamber music led him to form his own trio in Moscow, with which he went on to win several international awards. His chamber music partners include accomplished soloists, such as oboist Maria Sournatcheva, with whom he recorded an album featuring works by Schumann and Brahms, soprano Maria Ostroukhova, with whom he performed Messiaen's song cycle "Harawi," and renowned cellist Anastasia Kobekina. He also enjoys combining his work as a pianist with dance, theater, and the recital of texts or poetry. In this context, he performed as a pianist in Jeroen Verbruggen's ballet "Ba\Rock" at the Grand Théâtre de Genève, as well as in the dance-piano duo "La dernière touche" with Tadayoshi Kokeguchi in Switzerland and Germany.Aleksandr Shaikin now resides in Lausanne and teaches at the Concervatoire de Musique de Genève.
